Here are a few photos from Anime central 2007 convention that was held at Chicago this year. The costumed con goers were more numerous than fat people at a buffet, and they were enjoying themselves just as much. Many people think it
is too expensive to wear an attention-getting costume at these conbs, BUT YOU ARE WRONG! Check out the photos below and read on about how cheap you can do it!

Behold, this Dew warrior thoroughly enjoyed the Anime Central convention, snagging photo ops with babes right and left. Care to guess the cost of his outfit? We saw people with armor made out of cut up AOL discs, pop cans, you name it. Most poeple who attend the cons are college/high school kids and they have a limited budget. But from what we saw, they can be very creative!

These lovely ladies created their costumes from a trip to the goodwill. Notice the low cost wig made from yarn that completes the goth costume.
The standing girl was dressed a Leah from Futurama, and she used a $1.00 halloween mask to make leah's eye, and a pair of 4.00 stretch pants and tank top. Total value of $7.00 per outfit. Okay, on the high buck end, you can find many "Bleach" costumes on ebay for around $50.00 Here, next to the ladies, is your typical Ichigo costume from Bleach complete with a four dollar can of temporary red hair dye to creat the look. Compare it to the Ichigo graphic below.

Bender from Futurama. Amazing what you can do with duct tape!

Here's a picture for those who don't know who these characters are on Futurama... there's bender, leah, Fry...etc.

Here is Ichigo from Bleach.

Behold, the papermache mascot-like fox costume made by this lovely lady representing Kilala from the anime series Inu Yasha. It costs hundreds to have one made for you but she just got out the wire mesh and newspapers and discount fur fabric, and tada. Many sites on the internet detail how to do papermache!

Here is kilala from inyu yasha anime series...

Princess Peach from Mario Brothers. Where did she get that umbrella??! This umbrella works as an "identifier" costume component. You would have trouble identifying her without it! Many convention goers will hang little "identifiers' off them to that you can recognise their character...it is considered polite to give the guessers a "fighting" chance at IDing your character.

Mario and Luigi. Notice the young fella used double sided tape and construction paper for his mustache...all he needed was the white gloves. Notice the "identifiers" he is carrying..the mushroom half hidden behind him and the video game money bock in his hand, not to mentin the big L on his green hat. We have a Luigi here folks.

costume envy...it can get ugly at the cons....

A Gundam...one of many at the cons. Once again, papermache, boxes, and alot of creativity!

Here is one of the many gundams in the anime series
It only takes a little creativity to generate a memorable costume for anime coventions. Check out yahoo images for more costume ideas... |
